Ludek Pachman – Milan Vidmar

Scoresheet from 15. IX. 1948

Spindleruv Mlyn, Czechoslovakia

 

Scoresheet is written in pen in Pachman‘s hand, size 27.5 x 14 cm. Signed by both players – Pachman in pen, Vidmar in pencil.

Fair to good condition: two archive holes at left margin, some soil, some general wear, traces after 2x center fold. 

The game (1:0 in 42 moves) was played in Czech town Spindleruv Mlyn, in a tournament of 5 Trade Union teams from Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland and Yugoslavia (so-called Trade Union Olympiad).

The text in the heading means: 14 days of Trade Union chess

Biographical data:

Ludek Pachman (1924-2003), Czech GM, in 1940s and 1950s the best Czechoslovak player together with M. Filip, 7x Czechoslovak champion, German champion. He took part on many chess olympiads. Chess writer and theoretician. He won 2 games against Bobby Fischer in 1959.

Milan Vidmar (Senior, 1885-1962), Slovenian GM, in 1910s-1920 he was one of the world’s best players. Vidmar was also an arbiter (Hague/Moscow 1948) and author (Goldene Schachzeiten etc)
