DESCRIPTION

"BALTI TSOONITURNIIR" (1956 Tallinn)

1/4 Final of the 24th Soviet Chess Championship

VERY RARE AND EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND

NOT IN SAKHAROV-2!!

Karahan, I. (Chief Editor): "BALTI TSOONITURNIIR". Tallinnas 10.V - 10.VI 1956. A. NSV Liidu XXIV Maletšempionaat.

Tallinn, Ajakirja "Kehakultuur" Kaasaanne, 1956. Original softback edition. 16 pages (containing Title page, Cross-table and 6 photos). 22,2 x 14,5 cm. In Estonian.

Fair to good: The only major flaw is the condition of the front cover, with 2 spots near the spine (above and below the photo), and 2 punch holes near the outer side edge. Some slight wrinkle, more visible in the lower outer corner, and normal browning. Otherwise, the condition is reasonably good, and the defects mentioned are not unpleasant.

Not in Sakharov-2!!Di Felice 2156.1. (Chess Competitions 1824-1970).

Interestingly, in Di Felice "Chess Results 1956-1960" appears on page 61 as played in Riga, citing "Russian Chess Base" as Source. Looking at the booklet for this auction, it clearly seems like a mistake.

Nei's important triumph, tied at 14 points with Suetin, but with a better tiebreaker, also winning the game between the two. In third place, with 121/2 points, Gipslis.

Main content of the booklet:

1- Huvitav turniir ja hea õppetund (An interesting tournament and a good lesson) by V. Heuer. Pages 3-4.

2- Avanguteoreetiline ülevaade (Theoretical overview) by I. Rozenfeld. Pages 5-9.

3- Kesk- ja lõppmängudest (About middle and final games) by J. Randviir. Pages 10-12. Analysis of 11 positions.

4- Partiikommentaare (Commented games) by I. Neilt. Pages 12-14. Analysis of 4 games.

5- Partiivalimik (Game selection) by V. Heuer. Pages 14-16. Selection of 22 games without comment.
