DESCRIPTION

Alexandre, Aaron.

Paris, D'Urtubie, Worms, 1837. L/N 1790; van der Linde II, 11; Schmid p. 99 ff.

With 2 diagrams in text, 1 folded double-page title page, 3 folded leafs with text, 51 folded, numbered double-page tables, 1 folded overview table. In 51 tables, without annotations, this work contains the majority of openings from around 30 works by the important authors of the time. The games are arranged and put together in the manner used by Allgaier, namely in vertical rows next to each other. The following games are included:

Tab. 1 - 10: the Bishop game. Tab. 11 - 25: the Knights game. Tab. 26 - 30: the Bishop's gambit and irregular declined gambits. Tab. 31 - 41: the knight's gambit. Tab. 42 - 46: Queen's Gambit. Tab. 47 - 51: the regular openings.

Finally, there is an overview of the various openings. Schmid writes about this work: "It is an indispensable book for everyone who is concerned with the theory of the opening, because one can immediately see from it what has been written about every game up to now [1847]." The preface is printed in French, English, German and Italian.

Condition: Privately bound in green half leather. Some use. Paper yellowed. Some spots inside. Doge ears. Crack inside at gutter.
