The Chess Player's Chronicle. Vol.1. 1841. (Edited by Howard Staunton).
Binding is poor, the original cloth sides are loose and the spine is lacking. It would serve well by rebinding with the original covers. Engraved frontispiece of the Automaton Chess Player (loose and foxed), coloured title-page, pp xviii (about the Automaton), 416 (including index), (4) adverts. Internal condition is good. A small label of the ECF, Pollard collection on front endpaper.
The foremost English chess periodical of the mid-19th century.
