Edition augmentée de soixante - huite parties jouées par Philidor du traité de Greco des débuts de Stamma et de Ruy - Lopez. Par C. Sanson. Paris, Garnier, (1871).

With 1 portrait of Philidor, 1 title vignette and many diagrams. XXXIII, 1 leaf, 498 pages, 6 pages with table of contents. Chicco / Porecca p.395 gives the note that the original edition from 1749 and 1777 was frequently reissued, and had been edited by well-known chess players such as Sanson, Rust, Horwitz etc.

Philidor (1726 - 1795) was the greatest master of the 18th century and the strongest player in the world after his competitive victories against Stamma. Under the influence of Philidor, Paris and London developed into centers of the game of chess. Philidor also composed comic operas. L/N 469. van der Linde I, 412. Kieler Schach Katalog 3039. 

This edition contains a bibliography by Sanson:

Condition: New red leatherette with gold-decorated spine. Private stamp on title. Somewhat yellowed on the inside and partly stained and the last pages with margins.
