"The St. Petersburg Chess Congress, 1909" by Emmanuel Lasker. Published in hardback by the author in 1910. First Edition. Betts 25-47. 192pp. The book was previously owned by G. Wainwright (British amatuer champion, 1889 and participant in several England vs USA cable matches at the end of the 19thC - beginning of the 20thC) and his autograph is in pencil on the book's front endpaper (see scan). The book is in Good overall condition for its age. The boards are badly discoloured, particularly the front board, but the gilt lettering on the spine is still strong (see scans). The binding is tight and there is no shelf lean or bowing present. The page edge blocks are tanned from age and handling. There are two very small areas of superficial loss on the front endpaper (see scan). Internally the book is clean and annotation free although a previous owner - perhaps Wainwright - has pencil ticked or crossed numerous games (see scans). There is creasing to approx. pages 13-23 (see scan). Pages 92-93 have brown staining from what would appear to be a piece of paper having been placed there, several years ago (see scan). A very few other pages have small, light stains that are entirely commensurate with age (see scans). Scarce. No dustjacket (probably published without one). 'Signed For' postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £5.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details.
