COPY Nº. 439 (of a LIMITED EDITION)

Rare and scarce, and very hard to find

 

Dobbs, Dr. Gilbert & Hanna, Edward: "THE EMERY MEMORIAL". COPY Nº. 439 of I assume a limited print run.

Carrollton & Chicago, self-published, 1936. Original stapled softback edition. 36 pages. 21 x 15,3 cm. In English.

 

Good to very good: 1cm tear base of spine, sticker of British Chess Problem Society on inside front cover as well as an ex-libris blind stamp of previous owner. Label on the inside of the front cover, mentioning that this copy was donated by Robert McWilliam to the British Chess Problem Society.

 

L/N 2781; Kieler Schachkatalog 6268; Betts 33-27. Betts: "The problemist Emery died in 1936, aged 32. This volume is a tribute by his friends. Includes a portrait photograph, tributes by various contributors, a biographical sketch by Dobbs, and 24 two- and three-move problems especially contributed; with solutions on inside back cover."

 

A memorial to the Canadian problemist George Emery (1904-1936) which includes a biographical sketch, tributes from various people, 24 specially commisioned two- and three-movers as well as a previously unpublished problem by Emery himself on the front cover.

 

Robert C. McWilliam (12-07-1919 - 12-02-1997) Bob McWilliam was a British twomover composer specialized in the Schiffmann theme. He wrote about this a brochure "Schiffs with Everything", published in the "Chessays" series by G.P.Jelliss. He was a chess bibliophile.
