The English chess player John Cochrane (1798 - 1868), who came from Scotland, played a lot with Deschappelles, LaBourdonnais and Staunton. In addition to the Rio, this edition contains a catalog of chess authors and "instructive" games. The "Cochrane Gambit" named after him is also covered.
Condition: Privately bound. No gilt on spine. Frontispiece missing. Paper yellowed. Stamps inside: Frantisek Moucka, Jan Dobrusky, Cesky spolek sachovni, Sachovni club Dobrusky.
