containing the games on odds, from the "Traité des Amateurs;" the games of the celebrated Anonymus Modenese; a variety of games actually played; and a catalogue of writers on chess. XV, 1 leaf, 376 pages. L/N 637; van der Linde I, 372; Schmid p. 147. London, Allman, 1822.

The English chess player John Cochrane (1798 - 1868), who came from Scotland, played a lot with Deschappelles, LaBourdonnais and Staunton. In addition to the Rio, this edition contains a catalog of chess authors and "instructive" games. The "Cochrane Gambit" named after him is also covered. 

Condition: Privately bound. No gilt on spine. Frontispiece missing. Paper yellowed. Stamps inside: Frantisek Moucka, Jan Dobrusky, Cesky spolek sachovni, Sachovni club Dobrusky.
