Domenico Ponziani was Professor of Civil Law, one of the leading Italian authors of the 18th century and the most famous representative of the chess school of Modena. With his work "Il Giuoco incomparable degli Scacchi" he made an important contribution to the theory of chess. Ponziani propagated the open game, where pawns were rams for the pieces. The "Ponziani - Opening" is named after him. "Altogether it breaks down into three parts. First the general rules. In the second part, which has been further divided after the opening. The last part handles the endings.
