1993 "ПОВЕРЖЕННЫЙ МОНАРХ"

LIM. ED. of 105 Copies

By А. А. Кисляк

Кисляк, Александр Аврамович (Kislyak, Alexander Avramovich): "Поверженный монарх" (The Monarch Overturned).

ТверЬ-Киев (Tver-Kiev), self-published, 1993. Original stapled softback edition in low quality (typewritten and photocopied edition). Portrait (I can't be 100% sure, although it is possible that the signature below the portrait is original) + 62 pages. 20,5 x 14,6 cm. In Russian. Includes an introduction in English (at the back, in pages 57-59).

Good: Inside the front cover there is a remnant (currently "harmless", completely dry), perhaps from an old adhesive from the plastic dust jacket. Perhaps the biggest flaw is the type of paper and the poor quality of the edition.

The book contains 64 retro chess problems known as shortest proof games (SPG), the idea being " to mate the Black King on all 64 squares of the chessboard, ending the SPGs in pure mating patterns" ( i.e.each square of the King's field is guarded or blocked exactly once).

Information on the number of copies is available on pages 119-120 of the book "On the Tracks of Chess Pieces". In the following web page it is possible to download it in PDF: https://www.janko.at/Retros/Articles/On-The-Tracks-Of-Chess-Pieces.pdf . At the end of page 119, in the last paragraph, and page 120 you can read:

"In 1993, "The Monarch Overturned" was published as a separate booklet in Kiev. The print run was 105 copies. The geography of distribution was quite extensive - SpasskDalniy, Khabarovsk, Yakutsk, Yekaterinburg, Vorkuta, St Petersburg, Tver, Moscow, Tula, Maykop, Kiev, Zaporozhe, Mariupol, Odessa, Võru, Vienna, Aachen, Berlin, Carls-Roue, Munich, Ravensburg, Arras, Nice, Pisa, Stockholm, London, Evanston and several others."

Kislyak's article published in die Schwalbe in the late 1980s).
