"The British Chess Magazine, 1893". Published in multi-coloured maroon hardback by Trubner & Co in 1893. First Edition. Vol 13. Betts 7-27. 558pp plus Index. The volume is in Good Plus condition for its age. The binding is tight and there is no shelf lean or bowing present. The boards are clean although they have several areas of superficial damage (especially the board tips) and loss to extremeties and the spine area looks to have had a glue repair at some point in the past (see scans). The gilt lettering on the spine reads: "Britist {sic} Chess Magazine 1893" (see scan). The book binder has clearly made an error but this was probably considered amusing by the first owner and the error never amended. A Victorian mystery. Internally the volume is very clean and appears to be annotation free. There is a previous owner's name on the front endpaper plus a small shop sticker on the front pastedown (see scan). Internally the volume is in Very Good, clean condition and it is obvious that this volume has - internally at least - been well cared for over the years. The page edge blocks (particularly the top edge block) are evenly tanned from age, as are the internal pages but this is entirely commensurate with age. Rare. 'Signed For' postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £5.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details.
