DESCRIPTION

Philidor, A. D. Underretning om Skak – Spil,

uddragen af Philidor, udgivet i Nürnberg … 1769, og Forsög i Skak – Spil udgivet i Hamborg … 1770. With 4 (of 4) folded plates with diagrams. 176 pages, 1 leaf with errata. Pagination error on p. 111 / 112 which are "missing". No pages are really missing - this book is complete. L/N 514, van der Linde I, 397. Viborg, Mangor, 1773.

This Danish publication is mostly considered to be a Danish Philidor edition, mainly due to the title page, but also because the work includes the "four games" from Philidors "Analyse 1749". The "Viborg book" also includes parts of the combinations from Stammas "Essai sur le jeu des échecs" as well as a number of "Rösselsprung" published by Herr. Colline.

The majority of the Viborg book contains parts from the above mentioned works, but has also original contributions from its author: Casper Peter Rothe. Research has established that this book is not published in 1773 but one year later in 1774. Thus it is not the first Danish chess book, but the second by a few months.

Simple binding. Some spots inside. Some pencilled notes on inner lid. Some wear. Corners bumped.
