DESCRIPTION

"AJEDREZ, 1929"

EL TORNEO INTERNACIONAL DE BARCELONA

Picatoste, Sergio: "Ajedrez, 1929". El torneo internacional de Barcelona.

Castelldefels, Petit Camagroc, S.L.U., 2018. Original softback edition. 118 pages. 22,9 x 15 cm. In Spanish.

As new: In new condition. The photos are of the copy sold in the previous auction, in the same condition as the one in the current auction.

Author's note on the back cover:

"The international tournament held in Barcelona in 1929 was a turning point in the development of Spanish chess. It was the FEDA's letter of introduction to the world and a decisive step to build and consolidate a coherent and stable federative organization: the selection tournaments that it originated, the new federations that were constituted to be able to participate in it and the national chess congress which was held under his auspices give it a decisive importance in the history of chess in Spain.

This book is the story of a legendary tournament, of how it was conceived and developed; includes his 105 games (some with comments from the press of the time), accompanied by abundant diagrams that make the work more visually attractive."

The book contains on pages 22-23 the Crosstables of the qualifying tournaments, and the photos of the 4 classified to play the International Tournament: Ángel Ribera, Vicents Almirall, Josep M. Font and Placid Soler. Unfortunately, according to note 61 (appears on page 20, and his description on page 105), because of his professional obligations, Vicentes Almirall was unable to play the tournament and was replaced by Dr. Torres.

Crushing victory for Capablanca, 2 points ahead of Tartakower, both players undefeated. Other famous players of the tournament were Colle, Monticelli, Rey, Golmayo, Yates and Miss V. Menchik, completing the tournament with strong Spanish players.
