DESCRIPTION

"1957 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" by R. G. Wade

CHESS RECORDS, Number 2

EXTREMELY RARE

Wade, R. G.: "1957 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP", by R. G. Wade. CHESS RECORDS. Number 2. June, 1957.

Tolworth (Surbiton), Arthur Curtis, 1957. Original stapled edition. 22 pages. Typescript. 25,8 x 20,8 cm. In English.

Good: The main flaw is the relatively strong foxing (mainly in the first and last pages). Some wrinkling, slight browning near the spine of covers, and some rust on the staples. Spine breakage at both ends and also in the center. Otherwise in very reasonable condition, especially considering the rarity of this booklet.

Di Felice 2592.1; Betts 27-55. "Typescript. Not examined. Details from "Chess Reader", Vol. 2, no. 4, Spring 1958, and confirmed by publisher. Contains all 22 games, with notes." (Betts).

One sign of the rarity of this booklet is that Betts himself was unable to examine it.

Another example of the rarity of this booklet are the words of the expert in English Chess Literature, Michael Clapham, to whom I gladly give the floor:

"Curtis ventured into chess publishing in 1957 and produced two books in his series of Chess Records: Number 1 on the New York 1924 tournament and Number 2 on the 1957 World Championship match between Botvinnik and Smyslov with annotations by R. G. Wade.

Arthur Curtis's two publications were not reviewed in either the British Chess Magazine or Chess, but they did receive brief notices in Ken Whyld's Chess Reader, volume II, no. 4, Spring 1958, page 49 (page 109 of the reprint by Publishing House Moravian Chess, Olomouc, 2004.)"
