DESCRIPTION

"Международный Шахматный Конгрессъ

въ память М.И.Чигорина

С-Петербург, 1909"

LOVELY CONDITION

"Международный Шахматный Конгрессъ въ память М.И.Чигорина С-Петербург, 1909". International Chess Congress in Memory of Mikhail Chigorin. Editors and annotators: Emanuel Lasker and Eugen Snosko-Borovsky, both for the Master Tournament, and Boris Maliutin for the Amateur Tournament.

С-Петербург, Изд. С.-П. Шахматного собрания, 1910. Precious private cloth binding with manual decoration with clippings pasted with a remarkable "artistic impression" (the result is frankly beautiful). Title page + Portrait of Saburov + Editorial Note-Introduction + another Title page + 364 pages + 2 unnumbered sheets with Index and Errata. I can't be 100% sure, but it's very possible that the 1st Title page is the original Front Cover, and the last page is the original Back Cover. A photo with the original cover attached on the new hardcover binding can be seen at Klittich-Pfankuch Auction 54 (November 2008) in lot 1399 (sold for 500 EUR + tax!!). It is also possible that the original Front Cover was the same as the 1st Title Page. I think the latter option is more likely. 24,3 x 18 cm. In Russian.

Very good to excellent: Some minor defect in the binding with slight dirt on some edges of the covers. Upper outer corner of the 1st Title page painted with black ink (I don't know the reason). Otherwise inside in excellent condition, just a couple of lightly stained pages, nothing major. Honestly, I think it's a spectacular copy in almost unbeatable condition. The description and photos will be added before 18:00 on Sunday.

L/N 5296; Sakharov 77; New Sakharov 96; Di Felice 1929.2.

175 annotated games from the Master tournament. 1-2) Lasker & Rubinstein 14½/18; 3-4) Duras & Spielmann 11; 5) Bernstein 10½; 6) Teichmann 10.

140 annotated games from the Amateur tournament. 1) Alekhine 13/16; 2) Rotlevi 12.
