DESCRIPTION

"Chess Strategy and Tactics - Fifty Master Games Selected and Annotated" by Fred Reinfeld and Irving Chernev. Published in hardback by The Black Knight Press in 1933. First Edition. 100pp + Openings index and adverts. Betts 24-31. SIGNED on an endpaper by Erich Eliskases. The book is in Good Plus overall condition for its age. The boards are clean although the gilt lettering has faded somewhat. The binding is tight with a small shelf lean present but no bowing. The page edge block is lightly and evenly tanned from age. Internally the volume is very clean and annotation and foxing free. The Eliskases signature is in age faded ink and includes a dedication and date (see scan). Eliskases' star was on the rise in the late 1930s and there was talk of a World Title match agaist Alekhine but WW2 intervened. Hans Ree has stated that Eliskases is in a "club" of only four chess players that have beaten both Capablanca and Fischer in tournament play. Games are given in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. 'Signed For' postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £4.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details. PLEASE NOTE: AUCTION ITEMS WON FROM CUSTOMERS IN THE EU AREA (and the USA, etc) WILL HAVE THEIR GOODS POSTED FROM THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND (part of the EU) AND THIS WILL, HOPEFULLY, AVOID THE NEW BREXIT POSTAL TAX. (NB. Customers in the GB area will have their goods posted from Northern Ireland - part of the GB - as usual). Any questions, please just ask.
