Quarto (19 x 24cm) bound in brown half leather, edges and spine rubbed, joints are tender. Vol.1 is 176 pages. The chess content is conducted by J.White and is usually 4 to 6 pages per issue. Includes 28 games with brief notes, 53 problems, 22 chess enigmas, some chess news and correspondence. Each issue also contains about 8 pages on draughts plus some puzzles. There is no chess in Vol.2. LN 6136. Betts 7-18. Very scarce. A copy of Vol.1 sold at Klittich Auction 65 (Nov.2013) for a hammer price of 700 euros.

BOUND WITH: The Vaudeville Magazine, Monthly Journal Vol.1 No.1-6. Sep 1871 to Feb 1872. Chess content by J.T.C.Chatto, around 1/2 page per issue, includes 2 games, 12 problems and a short story. 104 pages. Not in Whyld & Ravilious.
