Large octavo, contemporary brown half leather, spine and corners rubbed, small plastic label to foot of spine otherwise good. Title-page with vignette illustration, pp viii, 344, each with 6 diagrams, ranging from "Mate in two moves" up to "Mate in ten moves" and above, pp 68 of solutions, "problem of the knight", and errata. Some foxing to margins or yellowing. Stamp of the British Chess Problem Society to title-page. LN 2383. (English and French editions were also published in the same year.)
The first large compilation of its kind, published when the author was 80.
