 Loyd (Samuel): Chess Strategy. A Treatise upon the Art of Problem Composition. Elizabeth, N.J., USA 1878.

1st Edn. Original brown cloth, tear on joint and top of spine, corners worn. Portrait of Loyd, 270pp. With an inscription "To Philip H. Williams from Alain C. White, June 13, 1922." With a bookplate of the British Chess Problem Society, presented by Mrs. P.H. Williams, and two stamps of the BCPS.

There are extensive notes throughout in black and red ink - these could be by either Alain White or Philip Williams. There are 534 problems and the notes state where these first appeared in print. Loyd was the most famous American chess problemist, devoted his entire life to creating puzzles and was known as "The Puzzle King." A very scarce book. LN 2439.
