"The Chess Students Quarterly, Vol 1". Published in paper covers by Edgar Cordingley in 1946-47. First Edition. Betts 7-108. 176pp plus. This Lot comprises the first 5 issues of this rare chess magazine (Issue numbers 1, 2, 3, 4A and 4B) plus duplicate issues of issue numbers 2 and 4A. The magazines are in Fair condition for their age. The lack of a proper cover to the issues has resulted in the covers bearing the brunt of any rough handling and all issues suffer from damage to the spine area, chipping or closed tears, etc (see scans). The issues 4A suffer the worst in this regard. There appears to have been no "binding" (eg. staples) and the issues were simply folded and posted to subscribers. The first issue has a pencilled note at the top of the first page (see scan) but I could not find any other inscriptions or annotations. Internally the pages are clean but have creases from age and handling plus some occasional small stains. The printing was famously poor and the diagrams practically unintelligible(!). Games are given in an alternation of algebraic and English descriptive notation. Not the prettiest lot of old chess magazines but hard to find, nonetheless. Further scanned images are available on request. Uninsured postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £2.50. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details. PLEASE NOTE: AUCTION ITEMS WON FROM BIDDERS IN THE EU (and The USA, etc) WILL HAVE THEIR GOODS POSTED FROM THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND (part of the EU) AND THIS WILL, HOPEFULLY, AVOID THE NEW BREXIT POSTAL TAX. (N.B. Customers in the GB area will have their goods posted from Northern Ireland - part of GB - as usual). Any questions, please just ask.
