DESCRIPTION

1859 "BERLINER SCHACH-ERINNERUNGEN"

Private hardback half linen binding without prints. VI unnumbered pages (including Half Title and Title pages, and Inhalt) + 223 pages + 2 unnumbered pages of "Nachträge und Verbesserungen" + IX folding Tables. 20,9 x 14 cm. In German.

Fair: Binding with some light rubbing on the edges and corners, with light stains (it seems browning) on the paper of the covers, with traces of a label at the top of the spine and on the side on the front cover, with light traces of the stain of an adhesive (perhaps cellophane). Quite a lot of foxing inside, a little stronger in a few pages. Some stamp of some Club or previous owner, with some annotation in the Half Title page and Title page. Any underlining or marking on a diagram. Remains of a light water stain (or some liquid) on the upper edge of the pages (most visible between pages 90-155) and the upper half of the outer lateral edge of the last few pages (most visible from page 173 onwards). Relatively small ink stains on page 170, slightly affecting pages 171-172. Otherwise a book in fair to decent good condition. Please see the photos below.

L/N 207; Kieler Schachkatalog 940 and 941.

The editor was a famous chess theorist of his time. This edition mainly contains his notes on the Berlin Games from the years 1837-1843. On pages 107-112 "Record of the older Berlin Games in the Schachzeitung and in Bilguer's Handbuch". In the appendix pp. 117-155 are the games of the Calabrese Greco in the order of Lasa. The work of Lucena can be found on p. 159-223 with XXXV endgames of Lucena. Lasa had a library with over 2250 volumes and was an honorary member of many chess associations and honorary president of the German Chess Association.

Normally in Auction it reaches prices close to 400 EUR + taxes, and even in the 59. Klittich-Pfankuch Auktion (June 2011) it was sold for 500 EUR + taxes.
