"The British Chess Magazine, 1914 (Volume 34)". Published in hardback by Trubner & Co. First Edition. 436pp. Betts 7-27. The volume is in Good overall condition for its age. The binding is good (not "tight" as there is a little movement to the spine) and there is a noticeable shelf lean but no bowing present. The boards are clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is still strong. The volume was once the property of the "Cambridge [University] Union Society" and their gilt embossing adorns the tail of the spine (see scan). The page edge blocks are tanned, mainly from age but with a hint of handling too. The front pastedown has the Cambridge Union Society library sticker on it, showing that it was last taken out on the 1st January 1966. There is a CUS stamp on one early internal page (see scan) but I could find no other stamps or references to previous ownership in the remainder of the volume. Internally the volume appears to be inscription and annotation free and has very little evidence of staining or foxing. The internal pages are generally very clean although they exhibit a mild rippling effect to extremities (see scan) that suggests dried liquid damage from some time ago. I found one double page with a small amount of transfer damage (see scan). Scarce. Games are given in English descriptive notation. 'Signed For' postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £5.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details. PLEASE NOTE: AUCTION ITEMS WON FROM BIDDERS IN THE EU (and The USA, etc) WILL HAVE THEIR GOODS POSTED FROM THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND (part of the EU) AND THIS WILL, HOPEFULLY, AVOID THE NEW BREXIT POSTAL TAX. (N.B. Customers in the GB area will have their goods posted from Northern Ireland - part of GB - as usual). Any questions, please just ask.
