DESCRIPTION

1936 "NAŠI MAJSTORI"

MUCH SOUGHT-AFTER BOOK

By Bora Tot

Тот, Бора (Tot, Bora): "НАШИ МАЈСТОРИ" (NAŠI MAJSTORI = OUR MASTERS).

Београд (Belgrade), Шаховске књижаре Милана Е. Брајера (Chess bookstores Milan E. Brajera), 1936. Original softback edition. 120 pages (including Title page. The first 11 unnumbered). 14,5 x 11 cm. In Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic.

Good: Somewhat worn and tan covers with some creases and small tears to the edges and spine, with a small missing top outside corner of front cover, 1 underline of 2 lines on page 14, fold in a few pages at its top outside corner, probably to mark the "point" of reading, and water stain on outside side edge from pages 51-52 and from page 65 onwards, barely 0,5 centimeters and on some pages it is less and barely visible. Very few pages with small stains. Honestly, it's not annoying at all. In general, despite the defects described, the condition of the book is good. Please look carefully at the 30 photos below the description as all major flaws are photographed.

L/N 3005; Kieler Schachkatalog 4157.

A BEAUTIFUL, RARE AND VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND BOOK, AND IT SHOWS THAT IT HAS DESERVED A REPRINT IN 2021.

Bora Tot (1907-1987) was one of the strongest Yugoslav chess masters in the first half of the 20th century. He lived in Novi Sad, and in addition to playing chess, he also distinguished himself as a theorist and chess writer. In this book, the author described the most important Yugoslav chess masters of his time. The book was written and printed in 1936 in Cyrillic, and contains 20 biographical profiles of the best Yugoslav players of that time, 16 chess games with the author's (or players) comments (1 for each player, except the 4 Federal Masters who only have a very slight biographical profile without game), 10 nice Drawings and 1 Photo.
