"CHESS, Volume 14" edited by B.H.Wood. Published in brown hardback by CHESS, Sutton Coldfield in 1949. First Edition. 248pp + 40pp. Plus FACSIMILE Index. Magazine numbers 157-168, inclusive (Oct 1948 - Sept 1949). Betts 7-91. The volume is in Good overall condition for its age. The boards are clean, the binding is good (not "tight" as there is a fair amount of give in it) and there is no shelf lean or bowing present. The rear board has superficial scratch marks on it and front board has a corner dent (see scans). The gilt lettering on the spine area has strongly faded and is now hardly visible. The page edge block is tanned from age. The internal pages are all clean and inscription/annotation/foxing free. The quality of paper used was quite poor by modern standards and this has resulted in tanning to all the internal pages but this is not as strong as some volumes I have seen. Spine webbing partially visible at the rear of the volume - see 13th scan. Includes the first 40pp of the Groningen, 1946 Special Supplement. The volume has a mild musty odour, as often found. Games and positions are in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Uninsured postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £3.50. Postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details. PLEASE NOTE: AUCTION ITEMS WON FROM BIDDERS IN THE EU (and The USA, etc) WILL HAVE THEIR GOODS POSTED FROM THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND (part of the EU) AND THIS WILL, HOPEFULLY, AVOID THE NEW BREXIT POSTAL TAX. (N.B. Customers in the GB area will have their goods posted from Northern Ireland - part of GB - as usual). Any questions, please just ask.
