At the Olympic tournament of Folkestone (1933) the world champion Alexandre Alekhine held the 1st board of the French team, whereas the master Louis Betbeder was occupying the 2nd seat. As expected Alekhine got an outstanding result ; but Betbeder played also very well ! So this item shows warm congratulations from Alekhine for his team-mate ! It was written some time after the event.
The item is made of a photo from the famous 1925 Paris tournament - we can recognize, from left to right, Alekhine, Znosko-Borovsky, Colle and Sir George Thomas - and, carefully glued at the back, the precious Alekhine's message ; it comes from the important G. Balbo's collection ; after, it was owned by the famous French collector Alain Bienabe.
Curiously, the dedicace (dated 1933) was stuck at the back of a 1925 photo ; who made that sticking ?, I cannot tell it. Nevertheless, a nice piece of history.
