A rare small book that discusses a Shinkman chess problem in which white, giving check at every move, compels self-mate in 418 moves.

William Anthony Shinkman (1847 - 1933) along with Samuel Loyd, is considered the most important American composer of chess problems of all time. He composed about 3500 chess problems of various themes. Shinkman has Czech roots, was born in the Czech city of Liberec. When he was seven years old, his parents emigrated with him to America.

Condition - Good: small part of the lower corner of the front cover torn off, previous owner's stamp on the back of the front cover, some small red marking on page 11.
