Wiener Schachzeitung 1898. Organ des “Wiener Schach-Club”. Redigirt von A. Halprin und G. Marco. No. 1-12 (8/9 is a double number.) Half-title page, title page, index. 212 pages. Complete volume 2. Bound without covers. LN 5957.
Exlibris Karel Treybal, who is signed on the title page and also on the half-title page.
Karel Treybal (1885-1941) was a Czech chess master, member of Czech chess national team and silver medallist at the 1933 Chess Olympiad in Folkestone. At the tournament in Karlsbad he led for a long time, beating for example Alekhine, Nimzowitsch and Spielmann, but after a weaker finish he ended up in 6th-7th place. He was not a fighter, played conciliatory and was almost always willing to accept a draw, often depriving himself of valuable half points. Younger brother of Frantisek Treybal.
Condition - Good Minus: private half leather binding with gold lettering on spine, binding worn at the edges, paper yellowed, several pages with brown stains, a few pages a bit loose.
