DESCRIPTION

Original group photo from the main tournament of the 3rd Championship of Czech Chess Union in Prague 1909. The photo is placed in a hard paper frame (22,5 x 16,4 cm). The photo in better quality can be seen HERE.

Standing from the left: Amos Pokorny, Frantisek Grössl, O. Hakl, Karel Krofta, Adolf Dusek.

The most known players on the photo:

Karel Hromadka (1887 - 1956) - Czech master and national champion 1913 and 1921. With the national team of Czechoslovakia he won the first unofficial chess Olympiad in Paris 1924. In 1912, he won the tournament in Vilnius ahead of Bogoljubov and was awarded the title of Russian master. One of the strongest Czech players in his time.

Amos Pokorny (1890 - 1949) - Czech master and multiple medalist of national  championships. He played for Czechoslovakia at the Chess Olympiads in 1927, 1928 and 1930. Wrote tournament books Pardubice 1923, Hamburg 1930, Folkestone 1933. He was also involved as an official. From 1930 to 1946 he was captain of the national team.

Ferdinand Krticka (1892 - 1951) - Czech master, won the main tournament at the national championship in Pardubice 1923. He also dealt with the problem chess.

Adolf Dusek (1882 - 1958) - chess player and chess official. Represented Czech chess players at the funeral of Carl Schlechter. In 1943 he was the main organizer of the international tournament in Prague 1943.

Rudolf Mikulka (1889 - 1951) - chess player and chess official. He also dealt with the problem chess. In 1947, he was a member of the winning team of Czechoslovakia at the unofficial World Championship in solving chess problems.

Condition - Still Good: The photo is a bit dusty and stained. The frame is taped on the back.
