Size: 11 x 8,3 cm.

 

Frantisek Zita (1909-1977) was a Czech international master and national champion in 1943. He represented the national team of Czechoslovakia in the Chess Olympiads in 1937, 1939, 1952 and 1954 and in the unofficial 1936 Chess Olympiad.

 

Karel Opocensky (1892-1975) was a legendary Czech international master. He was four-time national champion (1927, 1928, 1938, and 1944) and played four times in the Chess Olympiads. He won individual gold (11,5/13) and team silver medals in Folkestone 1933 and team bronze in Prague 1931. Opocensky was also a chess publicist and is the author or co-author of several chess books. He was the chief arbiter for the World Chess Championship matches in Moscow 1951 and 1954, in the 10th Chess Olympiad in Helsinki 1952 and in the famous Candidate Tournament in Neuhausen/Zurich 1953. During his long career he met many chess stars behind the chessboard, such as Alekhine, Capablanca, Euwe, Smyslov, Tarrasch, Schlechter, Rubinstein, Nimzowitsch, Réti, Maroczy, Marshall, Bogoljubow, Janowski, Flohr, Keres, Tartakower, Spielmann, Breyer, Vidmar, Bronstein, Saemisch, Menchik, Junge, Gruenfeld, Fine, Eliskases, Lilienthal, Najdorf, Stahlberg, Pirc, Hort, Filip and others. He is also one of the few Czech chess players who defeated the reigning world champion. He defeated Alekhine in Munich 1941.
