New condition: No flaws to mention. Totally new condition.

AWESOME AND WONDERFUL BOOK!! The 29 photographs after the description, at the end of these lines, are only a small sample (perhaps a third part or less) of the photographic content of the book!!

At the launch of the book in 2021, it was said that László Jakobetz had created a work that would have filled a gap, which was intended to be published in 2020, on the 150th anniversary of Géza Maróczy's birth.

However, due to the crown virus epidemic, the publication was delayed until 2021 this year, the 70th anniversary of the death of the two-time Olympic champion chess player (1927, 1936).

"This large, hardback, 503-page volume is a significant milestone in the publication of Hungarian chess books, the most comprehensive chess book in the Hungarian language, containing more than 400 photographs, 165 mostly unknown games and 79 corrected tournament tables", said Gábor Kállai, international chess grandmaster and chess writer, about the book, which is also significant in terms of its weight, and then briefly outlined the career of Géza Maróczy. He stressed that he was a man of knowledge, from whom the whole Hungarian chess world was nourished. At the beginning of the century, between October 1904 and March 1907, he was at the top of the world ranking, the best in the world. Despite this, he challenged the world champion only once - the match was cancelled - because he was more interested in the development of Hungarian chess than in fighting for the chess throne. Besides being a leader and a coach, he felt obliged to pass on his knowledge in books.

The author, László Jakobetz, described the book as the finest of his work to date, worthy of Géza Maróczy, who "was even more popular than footballers in his day".

He was proud to say that the foreword to the book was written by Lajos Portisch, the Sportsman of the Nation, for which he was particularly grateful. He also thanked the Hungarian Chess Foundation and the Béla Nagy Programme of the Hungarian Chess Federation for their support, and stressed that the valuable work would not have been possible without the donation of former President Pál Schmitt and his wife Katalin Makray.

"Even if I didn't become a great chess player, I may have succeeded in making a lasting impression on the history of chess," said László Jakobetz.
