Original typewritten postcard from Nenad Petrovic sent to Ilja Mikan, dated 2 July 1949. The postcard is written in Croatian and has N. Petrovic's original signature at the end. N. Petrovic writes about the incorrect problem of I. Mikan and asks for a correction. In the lower left corner is a handwritten note by Ilja Mikan about his reply to the letter sent on 8 July 1949. Size 14 x 9 cm.

Nenad Petrovic (September 7, 1907– November 9, 1989) was the first Croatian Grandmaster of chess composition and World Champion in the solving of chess problems in 1947. He composed some 650 problems, of which 121 were included in FIDE Albums. Petrovic was a long-time chairman of the Yugoslav organisation of chess composition and president of the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition of FIDE. In 1949 he wrote the book Sahovski problem and in 1951 he started the chess problem magazine Problem which in 1952 became the official organ of the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition of FIDE. Petrović was also the creator of the Codex of chess composition, the starter and editor of 13 volumes of FIDE Albums containing the best compositions starting from the year 1914. One of the greatest personalities in the history of problem chess.

Ilja Mikan (12 January 1911 - 12 April 1979) was a Czech composer. International Master of composition and judge for chess composition. He composed around 1200 problems, especially selfmates and three-movers in Bohemian school. He achieved 49.5 points in the FIDE Albums, won more than 215 awards, including 28 first and 47 other prizes. He was the editor of the problem section in the Czech chess magazines Sach, Ceskoslovensky sach and Sachove umeni, ran many chess columns and wrote many articles and books - Rychle vitezstvi (1947), 13 volumes of Gallery of Czechoslovak  composers (1965-75), Dobrodruzstvi 64 poli (collection of own problems, 1973) Ceske granaty 1898-1958 (works of Miroslav Havel, 1975). For many years he worked in the Czechoslovak chess organisation of composition chess and owned one of the most extensive chess libraries in Czechoslovakia.
