DESCRIPTION

Mackenzie (A.F.): Chess: Its Poetry and Prose. A Practical and Theoretical Treatise on the Arts of Composing and Solving Chess Problems...the Author's Prize Problems. Published by the Author, Kingston, Jamaica. 1887. 1st Edn.

Original red decorative cloth, gilt, spine rebacked with original laid down which is faded and discoloured, new endpapers, some early pages yellowed, otherwise a good tight copy. Frontispiece printed in mauve, pp viii,446, 33, (7) including list of subscribers, and over 100 problems by the author. A scarce work. LN 2477.

A composer of Scottish descent, and a schoolteacher in Jamaica, the growing popularity of the two-mover and its further development owed much to his influence. (Oxford Companion.)
