Contemporary cloth-backed boards, spine is discoloured and worn, page edges untrimmed, a good tight copy. Title-page with small engraving, 100 diagrams printed in green, red and black, pp xii, 337, 2 (adverts). LN 428. An early use of colour printing for practical purposes. A translation of Stamma's "Essai sur le jeu des Echecs" (1737).
