Bingham (J.S.): The Incomparable Game of Chess. Translated from the Italian of Dr.Ercole Dal Rio. To which is Prefixed An Essay on the Origin of the Game by Eyles Irwin. J.J.Stockdale, London, 1820.
Only Edition. Contemporary boards, spine rebacked retaining the original paper title-label, page edges uncut, a good tight copy. Engraved frontispiece, diagrams in text, pp 340. J.S.Bingham is a pseudonym of Capt.John Smith, of the Royal Navy, and relative of James Cook. LN 535 "The ascription to Del Rio is an error." It is actually a translation of Ponziani. A good copy of a scarce work.
