Original photo from the game Suba - Ermenkov, played at the Prague 1985 zonal tournament. In the background is the game Adorjan - Gheorghiu. Author of the photo: Helena Sukova (her stamp is on the back). Size 17,5 x 11,5 cm.
Mihai Suba (born 1 June 1947) is a Romanian and Spanish chess player, International Grandmaster and three-times Romanian Chess Champion (1980, 1981, 1985). He started playing chess at the age of 19, which is unique for a chess grandmaster. Especially considering that in 1982 he almost advanced from the Interzonal tournament to the Candidates tournament (he was third behind Ribli and Smyslov) and in 1986 he was ranked 20th in the world rankings (along with Yasser Seirawan). In 2008, he became a Senior World Champion (along with Larry Kaufman). He wrote the books Dynamic Chess Strategy and the monograph The Hedgehog.
Evgenij Ermenkov (born 29 September 1949) is a Bulgarian chess player, International Grandmaster and five-times Bulgarian Chess Champion (1973, 1975, 1976, 1979, 1984). One of the strongest Bulgarian players in the 70s and 80s. He represented the national team of Bulgaria at the Chess Olympiads from 1978 to 1992. In the 1990s he changed his place of residence to Palestine, which he represented from 2003 to 2010.
