DESCRIPTION

Original colour photo postcard signed by Vlastimil Hort.

Vlastimil Hort (born 12 January 1944) is a Czech-German grandmaster. During the 1960s and 1970s he was one of the world's strongest players. He was national champion of Czechoslovakia six times (1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1977) and national champion of Germany three times (1987, 1989, 1991). He won many international tournaments, in 1970 he represented the world team in a match against the USSR and defeated Polugaevsky. In 1976 he advanced from the Interzonal tournament to the Candidates tournament, where in 1977 he unluckily lost to Boris Spassky, losing the deciding game on time in a completely won position. Hort is also a respected commentator and author of numerous articles and books.
