SZACHY – 1966r - Pemat
I-sze wydanie
Jana Kochanowskiego
Chess - Jan Kochanowski's heroic comic poem dedicated to Jan Krzysztof Tarnowski. The work was published in Kraków between 1562 and 1566 (Maciej Wirzbięty's printing house), and was written during the poet's stay in Padua or in the early court period. The prototype for the piece was Marc Girolamo Vida's Italian poem Scacchia ludus (The Chess Game, 1527). A copy of the second edition of Chess (from 1585) is kept in the Kórnik Library. The plot of the work: The Danish king Tarses, who was in favor of your family's husband Anne, could not prove the choice among the candidates. Next were the two most persistent knights: Fiedur and Borzuj. In order not to perform a bloody duel, they were ordered to play a game of chess for the hand of the princess. The game went on for many days. The princess's heart went towards Fiedur, which is why he began to lose. So the girl sneaked into the room with the chessboard at night to change the position of the piece, but it turned out that the chamber was heavily guarded. So gain the trust of the lover's advice, thus delivering to victory. So Anna recommended a way for the chosen one to sacrifice a rook, and a real knight and bishop played pawns. This solution to the problem was already known in the medieval chess tradition as the Dilaram problem.
