Lubomir Kavalek (August 9, 1943 – January 18, 2021) was a Czech-American grandmaster. He won two Czechoslovak and three U.S. championships and was ranked as the world's no. 10 player in 1974. Kavalek was also a chess coach, organiser, teacher, commentator, author and award-winning columnist.
Frantisek Pithart (October 20, 1915 - October 20, 2003) was a Czech chess master, trainer, publicist and official. In the 1950s he was one of the leading Czech chess players. He participated in the Czechoslovak Chess Championships finals six times and twice (1955, 1965) won the bronze medal. He represented the national team of Czechoslovakia at the Chess Olympiads in Helsinki 1952 and at the European Team Chess Championship 1957 (bronze medal).
