Rolf Martens [1942-2008], sometimes named "The Swedish Tal" was and oustanding talent who won the Swedish championship 25 years old in 1967. In the Student Team Championship 1967 he beat Vlastimil Hort, at that time one on the ten highest rated players in the world. In the Olson Memorial in Göteborg 1967/68 he scored 7/9 only beaten by Geller, but soon after that he left the arena and devoted himself to political activities on the far left. But he still loved analyzing chess openings and has most probably given name to more openings than anybody else in chess history: Kamchatka, Pawn Indian, Kreti, Snake Benoni, The Scorpion, Science Straight Benoni, Shirazi/Brohinka Sicilian, Gaw Paw, The Cobra, Space French, Norwegian Rat Defence etc.
