In 1966, the Spanish writer Carmelo M. Lozano, with this first novel of his literary production, fell short by one vote of winning the prestigious Nadal Prize. This Murcian lawyer, professor of Philosophy of Law and Natural Law at the University of Murcia, between 1974 and 1976 published three more novels, but only the first one deals with chess. The work not only features a chess motif on its cover, but also follows in its structure the scheme of the famous Immortal Game between Anderssen and Kieseritzky, played in London, 1851.
