DESCRIPTION

The postcard was sent by Bretislav Modr, later publisher of the Czech chess magazine Sachinfo.

Jan Smejkal (born 1946) is a Czech chess player and International Grandmaster. One of the world's best players in the 1970s. He was champion of Czechoslovakia in 1973, 1979 and 1986, and won many international tournaments. Between 1968 and 1994 he represented the national team at ten Chess Olympiads and won a silver medal in 1982.

Lubomir Ftacnik (born 1957) is a Slovak chess player and writer, International Grandmaster, five-times Czechoslovak Champion (1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1989) and two-times Slovak Champion (1977 and 1979). At the Chess Olympiads, he represented first Czechoslovakia and then Slovakia from 1980 onwards, missing out only in 1998. His major triumph occurred in 1982, when he helped the Czechoslovaks win the silver medal.

Pavel Blatny (born 1968) is a Czech chess player and International Grandmaster. He was national champion four times (1988, 1990, 1997, 2000) and represented the national team seven times at the Chess Olympiads. In 1995 he won the prestigious New York open.

Petr Haba (born 1965) is a Czech chess player and International Grandmaster. He was national champion two times (1996, 2002) and represented the national team four times at the Chess Olympiads.
