DESCRIPTION

TRANSACTIONS OF THE BRITISH CHESS ASSOCIATION

 1866 LONDON - 1867 DUNDEE

Lowenthal, J. and Medley, G. W. (Ed. together): "The Transactions of the British Chess Association for the years 1866 and 1867"; containing a report of the proceedings at the London and Dundee meetings, with a selection of the Games played, and of the Problems sent in for competition. Edited by J. LOWENTHAL AND G. W. MEDLEY.

London, Longmans, Green, Reader, and Dyer, 1868. Original green cloth publisher binding with gold titlte in front cover and blind embossed on both covers, with red-tinted outer edge of pages. Frontispiece with loose-leaf tissue protection + Title page + Table of contents + 164 pages. 21,7 x 14,5 cm. In English.

Very good: Just normal blemishes on the covers with light scuffing to the corners and edges, light dirt more visible on the back cover, and a small circular foxing stain affecting the safeguard, Frontispiece, Title Page, and Table of Contents. Otherwise, for the age of the book, a copy in very good to excellent condition with no writing inside.

L/N 5193; Betts 25-6; Di Felice 606.2 and 1164.1 (Chess Competitions 1824-1970); Maybe not in Kieler Schachkatalog.

Betts:

"Contains a selection of 37 games from the 1866 congress (Challenge Cup: 1. de Vere; 2. MacDonnell. Handicap: 1. Steinitz and Green), 46 from the 1867 Dundee congress (Challenge Cup: 1. Neumann; 2. Steinitz. Handicap: 1. Steinitz and Fraser), the 14 games of the match Steinitz v. Anderssen (1866), and 64 problems. All the games have brief notes."
