"THE GAMES OF THE MATCH AT CHESS"
1824-1828 Edinburgh-London
Lewis, William: "THE GAMES OF THE MATCH AT CHESS" played by the London and the Edinburgh Chess Clubs, between the years 1824 and 1828, with numerous variations and remarks, by W. Lewis, Teatcher of Chess, and Author of several publications on the game.
London, J. F. Setchel, 1828. Private hardback binding without prints. VIII (including Half Title page and Title page) + 131 pages. 22 x 14 cm. In English.
Good: Binding somewhat dirty and with scratches on the spine, edges and corners. There appears to be very light remnants of an old Title label on the upper half of the spine. Light foxing stains throughout the book, except at the beginning to page 9, and pages 22-28, 43-49 and from page 125 to the end, where the foxing is most visible. Otherwise a copy in very decent (good) condition with no writing inside.
L/N 3371; Di Felice 3016.6 (Chess Competitions 1824-1970); Kieler Schachkatalog 3873.
Rare book of the famous correspondence match won by Edinburgh (+2 =2 -1).
