Between 1862 and 1868 Max Lange (1832 - 1899) was considered one of the strongest German chess masters. For many years he was chairman of the German Chess Federation, author of fundamental works and contributor to the Deutsche Schachzeitung. Rare collection of chess games with comments intended to provide guidance for the study of practical play and a contribution to further theoretical development.
