containing a regular system of attack and defence: also numerous rules and examples, teaching the most approved method of playing pawns at the end of a game. To which is added, a selection of critical and remarkable situations, won or drawn by scientific moves. A new edition, revised and improved, with additional notes and remarks by W. Lewis. London, Longman, Hurst u. a., 1822. XXII, 1 leaf. 352 pages. 

The English chess player and theorist J. H. Sarratt (died 1821) was a teacher in London and transferred the great Italian and Spanish works to English. This edition is his great theoretical work on chess. The author acquired himself the title Professor of chess, with his first edition "A treatise on the game of chess ... 1808". He was considered one of England's wisest and strongest players of his time. The present work contains the first systematic treatment of the Muzio Gambit.
