Wilhelm Steinitz regarded his new doctrines on the positional game, as his work of life. In the main part of the first volume, various openings (e.g. Ruy Lopez, Philidor Defense) are presented in table form. These are illustrated with games, notes and diagrams. Finally the games of the Steinitz-Chigorin match are analyzed.
Condition: In publishers original cloth with gold embossed chess board on cover. Slight wear and slight foxing.
