Original green cloth binding with lightly blind-stamped cover decoration and gold-stamped title on front cover.
Contains a selection of 37 games from the Congress of London 1866 (Challenge Cup: 1. de Vere; 2. MacDonnell. Handicap: 1. Steinitz and Green), 46 from the Congress of Dundee 1867 (Challenge Cup: 1. Neumann; 2. Steinitz. Handicap: 1. Steinitz and Fraser), 14 games from the competition Steinitz - Anderssen 1866 (Steinitz won 8 : 6 and was considered the best player in the world afterwards) and 64 problems. London 1866 was the third major tournament in which time was measured; timekeepers were hourglasses. In Dundee 1867, draws were valued at 1/2 point for the first time. All games have brief annotations.
Condition - Good to Very Good: only light wear on the cover, the back cover a bit stained.
