Original photo of Vlastimil Jansa in Athens while visiting the Acropolis in 1964 (in that year Jansa won his first national champion title). The Czechoslovak team made a trip there on their way to the Chess Olympiad in Tel Aviv. Size: 14,6 x 10,5 cm.
Vlastimil Jansa (born 1942) is a Czech chess player and International Grandmaster. He was the national champion in 1964, 1974, 1984 and funnily enough almost in 1994 as well, but he lost the match for the first place to Zbynek Hracek. In 1963 he was a member of the Czechoslovak team that won the World Student Championship in Budva. Between 1964 and 1986 he represented the national team at ten Chess Olympiads and achieved his greatest success at the 1982 Lucerne Olympiad, where Czechoslovakia finished second behind the Soviet Union. In 2018, he became the senior world champion in the 65+ category.
Condition - Good: a bit spotty (probably caused during the production of the photograph).
