Mach, Zdenek. Lidove noviny 1926. Special print of chess column from the newspaper Lidove noviny 1926, no. 1 - 52. In Czech. Whyld page 248. Mokry 319. Original binding. 37 x 24 cm.
The chess column in the Lidove noviny was published in the years 1905-1914 and 1922-1952. The editors were Stanislav Trcala (1905-1914), Zdenek Mach (1922-1927), Amos Pokorny (1927-1949) and later Jiri Lendl, Eduard Lendl and Karel Prucha. The column was comprehensive and very well maintained with lots of information on problem and practical chess, some of which are difficult to obtain from other sources.
At least the 1925 and 1926 volumes were bound into a special print at the end of the year. The 1926 volume offered in this auction is one of these rare special prints. In all checked copies, the special print 1926 was always bound without column No. 17 from April 25., which, however, probably appeared in the newspaper itself. This information is also given by Karel Mokry in his bibliography of Czech chess literature. As far as I know this special print has never been offered in LSAK or Klittich auctions.
Condition - Good: original softcover without lettering, spine with a few tears, paper browned and a bit spotted on several pages at the bottom.
