DESCRIPTION

""L'ECHIQUIER" 1928 TOME IV

By Edmond Lancel

LOVELY CONDITION

Lancel, Edmond (Ed.): "L'Echiquier". REVUE INTERNATIONALE D'ECHECS paraissant tous les mois. DIRECTEUR EDM. LANCEL. Tome IV 1928. 4e ANNÉE - Nº 37-48.

Bruxelles, L'Echiquier Belge, 1928. Private green cloth binding with gold Title on spine. VIII (including Front cover of Tome IV and Register) + 815-1110 pages + 12 plates outside text. Continuous pagination with the previous year. Bound without covers. 31,5 x 24,7 cm. In French.

Excellent: Clean contents and practically no trace of foxing. Very light water stain on the upper outer corner of the front cover of Volume IV, although without affecting any other page. A volume in excellent condition, almost like new.

L/N 5974; Serruys & Van Habberney 14000; Di Felice 851; Kieler Schachkatalog 112.

I'm not completely sure, but the condition is so good that perhaps this copy is made on the thick paper of the original Deluxe Edition (I honestly think not, although I'm not sure). According to Serruys and Van Habberney, the first 4 years were also published in a deluxe edition with thick paper. In any case, the condition seems excellent, in the hands it feels spectacular.

The order of the plates that appears in the 1st Edition of "Belgian chess publications: an annotated bibliography" by Serruys & Van Habberney, is incorrect (perhaps in the 2nd this is already solved, although I cannot confirm it), since by mistake they have changed the position of the Portrait of Carlos Torre to the 7th (No. 43), when in reality it is the 2nd (No. 38), as can be seen in the annotation in the upper margin, as well as on page V of the Index. Curiously, the annotation in the upper margin of the Portrait of Henri Rinck is incorrect when mentioning that it is from May, when in reality it is from April, as it appears on page V of the Index.
